True top cropping yeast strain from a traditional brewery in Cologne, Germany. Beers will exhibit some of the fruity character of an ale, with a clean lager like profile. It produces low or no detectable levels of diacetyl. May also be used to produce quick-conditioning pseudo-lager beers and ferments well at cold 55-60°F range. This powdery strain results in yeast that remain in suspension post fermentation and requires filtration or additional settling time to produce bright beers. However, if you lack the equipment to brew a true lager, the Kolsch strain is a fantastic alternative for lager-like recipes.
*NOTE:*During summer months, we include complimentary ice packs with all liquid yeast orders. However, it is difficult to guarantee that the ice packs will stay frozen given transit times and particularly hot temperatures. For this reason, we recommend ordering dry yeast during summer months.
