Why choose brown glass bottles?
The beer bottle glass color you choose for your homebrew will greatly impact its taste. Dark amber or brown glass greatly reduces UV light from spoiling the beer. Sure, any colored glass beer bottles filter out both visible and ultraviolet light. Brown glass blocks out more light than green, making it the optimal choice for bottling homebrew. Dark beers also absorb more light than light beers, making it essential to store stouts, bocks, and the like in brown bottles, while lighter beers can be stored in green bottles.
Since, clear glass beer bottles don’t block any light, they are the least desirable choice for long term beer storage, with the exception of any specific beverage whose color was the primary characteristic you were trying to stress, such as a red ale.
